Holy Roman Empire- trade Economy
By: Kyle Woodside
Trade was a very important part of the Holy Roman Empire and so was their economy. Here is a little information about the trade and a little about the economy.
Most of the trade in the Holy Roman Empire came from the crusades. The crusades opened a direct contact with the traders. The only problem with the travel is that the people brought back many different diseases that were often fatal. Not all trade happened during the crusades though. A lot of it happened after the crusades. The reason this happened was because when the people in the crusades came back home with new things it had inspired the townspeople to trade. Some of the goods the people traded for were the compass, paper, medicine and spices, new crops, and advanced mathematics were all traded. Trade was very important to the Holy Roman Empire because it had a lot of people to feed which was the good of their economy to feed everybody.
Now that you have learned a little about the trade in the Holy Roman Empire, here is a little about their economy.
As big and successful as the Holy Roman Empire was, it never really accomplished a very complex economy. Their biggest concern was to feed the vastly populated empire. It was an agrarian and slave based economy. The most dominate things that helped the economy were trade and agriculture. The thing that helped a lot with the economy was that there was a lot of farmers that traded their crops for the economy. The largest industry in the Roman Empire was mining. This also helped with the building of homes for people. The stone from the mining was used to make big building projects. This all gave money to the economy which helped it keep the Holy Roman Empire going on and on for a long time.
